Over 70 Million new users made accounts on the quickly growing social media platform Telegram, long considered a good alternative to Whatsapp.
The massive migration of social media users came during a more than six our outage of Facebook’s social media platforms including Whatsapp, Facebook, and Instagram.
“The daily growth rate of Telegram exceeded the norm by an order of magnitude, and we welcomed over 70 million refugees from other platforms in one day,” Telegram founder Pavel Durov wrote on his Telegram channel.
In a statement issued Monday night, Facebook blamed “configuration changes” to its routers, disrupting “traffic between our data centers”, as the cause of the outage.
