Traffic Alert: Gran Fondo Bike Race Coming Through Rockland County Sunday

The Gran Fondo bike race will be riding through parts of Rockland County on Sunday, May 15, 2022 from approx. 7:50 am to approx. 2:15 pm.

Each May, cyclists from around the world descend onto New York City and the starting line on the George Washington Bridge, which is fully closed to cars for GFNY. The race features approx. 5,000 riders from almost 100 nations coming together from all corners of the world to challenge themselves against the clock and fellow riders over the iconic route. After crossing the GWB, the cyclists travel up Route 9W through NJ and into Rockland County. They turnaround in Bear Mountain and continue through the windy backroads on Stony Point, Ramapo, and into Clarkstown, before heading back to the finish line in Fort Lee, NJ.

No roads will be closed for this event, but there will be periodic traffic interruptions when officers assist the cyclists with crossing intersections. (See below for map of the course through our area.)

The northbound leg of the race will enter Clarkstown at approximately 7:50 AM and ending at approx. 11:00 AM. The southern leg of the race will come back into Clarkstown starting at 9:30 AM and ending at 4:00 PM. Please use alternate routes or plan for the delays if you travel the area.
