A Thank You Letter To Rockland Chaverim, From a Single Mother

A single mother living in Monsey found herself in a petrifying situation, without anyone to help. A call to Chaverim, and volunteer Volvie Lefkowitz, ended the nightmare, prompting her to write a thank you letter to Chaverim.

Hello,

I am a single mother of 3 young children. I moved to Monsey from Montreal 3 years ago and I am not too familiar with “wildlife.”

Tonight, I saw a black, 3 foot snake slithering over my children’s toys in my home. I quickly gathered my children and exited my home. I walked to two neighbors but they weren’t home. A third neighbor kindly offered my children shelter but didn’t know what else to do.

I made many calls to emergency pest control, but to no avail. Then my handyman suggested I call Chaveirim. Volvie Lefkowitz, a Chaveirim member, called me to reassure me, stating that he was en route. Upon arrival, he got his gear (gloves and crowbar) and within minutes, he had the snake pinned.

I am so grateful to Chaveirim. Thank you so much for being there for people in distress! I feel blessed to have the possibility of sleeping at home without having had to relocate my family in a stranger’s home for the night.

When I initially called Chaveirim and described my situation to your dispatcher, she admitted that she wasn’t sure if anyone could help, but she said she’d put out the call and call me back. She was professional and called me back within seconds to say someone was on the way.

Hats off to Chaveirim! Knowing there are strangers available and willing to help another person, day or night, is truly incredible!

Thanks again!
