After Years of Free Speech Claims, Facebook Bans Holocaust Denial

A years-long battle with Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg has finally ended with the ban on Holocaust denial content on the platform.
Zuckerberg had previously been put on the spot regarding the platform’s permissive attitude towards Holocaust denial but had claimed that it fell under the context of free speech.
“I find it deeply offensive,” Zuckerberg was quoted as saying. “But at the end of the day, I don’t believe that our platform should take that down because I think there are things that different people get wrong. I don’t think that they’re intentionally getting it wrong.”
In a social media post following the policy shift on Holocaust denial, Zuckerberg named the rise in antisemitism as a factor in his decision to enact the change. “My own thinking has evolved as I’ve seen data showing an increase in anti-Semitic violence, as have our wider policies on hate speech.”
