All Israeli Schools to Shut Down Until After Pesach, Or Longer
The education system is expected to announce Thursday a complete shutdown of schools and kindergartens following a dramatic increase in the number of coronavirus cases in Israel. The shutdown would last until after Passover.
Throughout the day, discussions were held with senior officials from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, National Security Council, and the Prime Minister’s Office.
The National Security Council, which is in charge of coordinating the battle against the coronavirus, supported the complete shutdown of educational institutions, and the final decision will be made by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.
Secretary-General of the Teachers Union, Yaffe Ben David, called for support for the closure of educational institutions across the country.
In the last 48 hours, the number of individuals diagnosed with the coronavius in Israel has risen to 104.
