Arrest Made After Multiple Burglaries at A Shul and Cemetery
The Ramapo Police Department received reports of five separate burglaries that had occurred over a span of three months within the Village of New Hempstead and Monsey area. A suspect, from Brooklyn, was arrested this past week.
On three occasions, the suspect had entered a building on the grounds of a cemetery in New Hempstead and removed proceeds from a charity box. The same suspect on two occasions entered a synagogue in Monsey and committed the same offense.
That suspect, a 40-year-old male from Brooklyn, was identified and located by the Ramapo Police Investigations Division. He was placed under arrest and charged with 5 counts of Burglary 3rd Degree (D-Felony) and 5 counts of Petit Larceny (A-Misdemeanor). The subject also had an outstanding bench warrant for similar crimes in the Village of New Hempstead.
He was arraigned on all charges and released on his own recognizance for a future court date.
It should be noted that a criminal complaint is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
