Body of Firefighter Missing in Spring Valley Blaze Recovered and Identified

The body of Spring Valley Firefighter Jared Lloyd was located and recovered early Wednesday morning following the massive fire in Spring Valley.

Firefighters and rescue workers located the missing firefighters body at approximately 2:00am after hours of intensive search and rescue operations.

Loyd, a volunteer firefighter at the Columbian Fire Engine No. 1 at the Spring Valley Fire Department, had been performing rescue operations on the third floor of the Assisted Living Facility Tuesday morning when it is believed the floor gave way, sending him tumbling into the basement of the building, according to Rockland County’s Fire Chief.

The fire, which burning the entirety of the large building, took hours to gain control over, and ultimately collapsed a majority of the structure.

A fleet of emergency vehicles accompanied the body to the Medical Examiners office, with an official announcement expected later in the morning.
