Car Loses Control and Flips Over, Driver Arrested for DWI

Officers from the Ramapo Police Department were called to Haverstraw Road (Route 202) at 3:30am on Wednesday morning to the scene of an overturned motor vehicle.

The driver, a 33-year-old man from Haverstraw, was found uninjured, and he claimed to police that he had swerved to avoid a deer in the roadway and lost control.

But officers detected an odor of alcohol and signs of impairment and had the driver complete Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Officers determined that he was intoxicated and placed him under arrest.

It was later determined that his blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit.

He was charged with Aggravated DWI, Driving while Intoxicated and various vehicle and traffic infractions.
