Everyone is invited, menorah or no.

Yeshiva Mesivta Lubavitch of Monsey is hosting a parade beginning in Monsey and ending with a grand menorah lighting at the Palisades Center on Dec. 13, the second night of Hanukkah.

“It‘s definitely a good way to spread the light of Hanukkah,” said Rabbi Moshe Richler, one of the event organizers.

Hanukkah is an eight-day Jewish holiday that commemorates the rededication of the Jewish Temple by the Maccabees after their victory over the Syrians. A menorah is a nine-branch candelabrum, and each night of the holiday an additional candle is lit.

The yeshiva has hosted a parade and menorah lighting for over a decade, but this is the first year they are having it inside the mall, Richler said.

He hopes that this will make the event bigger and better.

Richler said they are expecting about 80 “menorah-mobiles” — vehicles with menorahs strapped on the roof — to participate in the 45-minute parade, which will begin at Congregation Tzemach Tzedek in Monsey and continue on Routes 306 and 59 until culmination at the Palisades Center.

The grand menorah lighting will include sufganiyot (jelly doughnuts) and a performance by The Gizmo Guys, a comedic juggling duo.

“The goal of the parade and menorah lighting is to share the joyous spirit of Chanukah,” said Rabbi Mendel Zirkind, another of the event organizers, in a released statement. “To instill Jewish pride and unity, and to bring more light into the world.”
