COVID-19 Cases Skyrocket in Rockland County, Cuomo Threatens Reprisals
by Monsey.info
In just a few days, the number of COVID-19 cases have skyrocketed in Rockland County, prompting Governor Cuomo to threaten officials.
The number of cases hit 1,072 Sunday, a staggering increase lead by Spring Valley with 471 cases, and Monsey with 332 cases.
The overall positive rate increased to 7.6%.
Cuomo laid blame for the spikes at the feet of the local officials, saying “They will actually be in violation of the law and they can be fined.”
The state health code penalties, which can be issued against local officials who willfully decline enforcement, can reach as high as $10,000 a day, according to a state official.
“Compliance is enforcement, compliance is not public education,” Cuomo said.
