Cuomo Says He Will Meet With Rockland County Orthodox Community Leaders Over COVID-19 Surge

New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo announced his intent to speak with Orthodox Jewish leaders over the surge in COVID-19 cases.
The surges have occurred in predominantly Orthodox Jewish areas, with Rockland, Orange, Nassau, Queens, and Brooklyn receiving special mention.
While the state has remained at or around a 1 percent infection rate for months, the governor announced 20 zip codes where the outbreaks have moved the infection rate closer to 5 percent.
“Now that we have this information, we’re going to aggressively target these clusters,” Cuomo said. “These are embers that are starting to catch fire in dry grass, so we’re going to send all the fire fighting equipment and personnel to those embers to stamp them out right away.”
Enforcement for mask wearing and social distancing has already been ramped up, with more expected if the clusters are not contained.
