Damaging Winds and Cold Front to move in Tonight After Day of Warmth
by Monsey.info
Above normal temperatures have taken hold of Rockland County today ahead of a strengthening area of low pressure near the lower Great Lakes that will bring in damaging winds overnight.
Gusty background winds — 15-30 mph sustained with gusts of 40-55 mph — are also becoming likely 11 p.m. Thursday through 7 a.m. Friday as a cold front pushes into the area. Scattered showers will develop Thursday evening as this system approaches the area. A strong cold front will be pushing into the region early Friday with increasing showers and the chance of an isolated thunderstorm, mainly between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m. Friday. The Showers will wind down from west to east after 7 a.m. Friday.
Total rainfall is expected to range from 0.50 inches to 1.25 inches. Lingering wind gusts to 50 mph will remain possible from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday behind the cold front. Winds will ease into Friday afternoon as this system exits offshore.
O&R is mobilizing its company-wide emergency response group to make repairs and restore electric service interruptions that could possibly result from strong winds and heavy rains, including possible isolated thunderstorms, that are expected to rumble through the region Thursday night into Friday.
