Drive To Extend Suffern Eruv Would Include Good Samaritan Hospital
by Monsey.info
Over the past several years, dozens of families have moved into the Suffern/South Airmont neighborhood. Yet although they now have a significant frum presence, they still remain outside the eruv.
“Mothers are stuck at home all Shabbos with babies, plus it’s very difficult to invite guests since they cannot use their strollers to carry,” the community wrote on a ChesedFund page. “Guests visit and don’t know that the eruv doesn’t cover the entire area, and sadly end up carrying on Shabbos.”
Yet the issue of carrying on shabbos goes further, to Good Samaritan Hospital.
A commonly used hospital by the Jewish residents of Rockland, many people walk to and from the hospital on shabbos, completely unaware that it is outside the eruv.
“We have been in contract with the Vaad Ha’eiruv of Monsey led by R’ Chaim Meir Steinmetz,” the fundraisers, who signed the ChesedFund page as “The local Suffern / South Airmont community,” wrote. “After months of meetings and planning, and town approvals, the Monsey Eruv are ready to begin the work for our community to add a section to the Monsey Eiruv, thus accommodating the community’s rapid growth.”
According to the organizers, the project will span over 33,264 feet, covering Suffern and neighboring Mahwah, NJ. The cost of this project is approximately $40,000.
The organizers went into detail, breaking down the cost to $15,000 for materials, legal, permit and insurance fees, $15,000 for work in Mahwah, and $10,000 for work in New York.
“We are asking for your help to get us to the goal,” they wrote. “Please make a donation today.”
