End of an Era, Indian Point Siren Never To Sound Again
by Monsey.info
It’s an end of an era in Rockland County as the Indian Point Siren, which was created to warn Rockland County residents should there be a nuclear treat from the Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant, has been turned off.
“Today we turned off The Indian Point Siren Notification System,” Rockland County Fire and Emergency Services wrote on Facebook. “In the coming months the sirens and poles will be removed.”
Indian Point has ceased operation as a power plant and the complex is being decommissioned. As the process progressed, Rockland County was no longer in any danger from the plant, and therefore the siren no longer had a reason to exist.
“The plants are being decommissioned and the threat of offsite consequences is no longer an issue,” they wrote. “While our role will be limited, Rockland County will still be monitoring the process and responding as needed.”
