Motty’s Supermarket Destroyed In Massive Blaze

The iconic Motty’s Supermarket on Main Street in Monsey was completely destroyed Thursday after a fire burned through the entire building.

The fire was first noticed by a Ramapo Police officer at approximately 12:35pm Thursday. Just as the officer approached the smoking structure, the building burst into flames.

Firefighters from the Monsey fire Department and Tallman Fire Department and the South Spring Valley Fire Department battled the blaze into the afternoon.

The fire fighting operations were taking place in the already hazardous winter storm that created logistical and safety problems.

As of the writing of this article, no injuries were reported.
