Hate in Rockland Following Tragic Death

Hate filled comments against Orthodox Jews have been posted online after the tragic death of a Jewish 26 year old man in a tragic accident Sunday. the comments were called out by the Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Council of Hudson Valley.

Following the tragic death of R’ Yakov Farkash obm, a 26 year old Orthodox Jew in Kiryas Joel, hate filled comments surfaced online.

The vehicle Farkash was in had been driving on Karlsburg Rd and Seven Springs Mountain Rd Sunday evening, when the driver lost control. The vehicle drove off an embankment, and overturned into a small drainage area.

Despite a quick response by Emergency personnel, Farkash was pulled from the car in Cardiac Arrest, and soon after arrival at the hospital, was pronounced dead.

Online comments on the story filled with hate pointing at Orthodox Jews soon surfaced.

One such comment was called out by the Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Council of Hudson Valley in a tweet.

“Finally! A Bath. Throw them Soap on a Rope!” the comment wrote. When called out, the commentor doubled down, saying they were proud of the comment.

After another person pointed out that a man had died in the accident, and the same commentor replied “One less on State subsidies. Make the lake bigger!”

The Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Council of Hudson Valley, called out area legislators and politicians for whitewashing the systemic hate in the area.
