A hero Spring Valley Police officer is being hailed for his actions this week after he risked his life to rescue three children from a smoke filled apartment.

According to a press release from the Spring Valley Police Department, officers responded this past Thursday to 34 Columbus Ave for a report of a structure fire.

When they arrived, they found heavy smoke billowing from the top floor of the structure, and were told that there were children trapped inside.

Putting their own lives at risk, the officers entered the burning building, crawling on the floor to evade the heavy smoke.

One of the officers discovered the three children, hiding under a blanket in the rear bedroom.

The Spring Valley Fore Department arrived soon after and was able to identify the fire as originating from a dryer. They quickly extinguish the blaze.
