It’s a major development in more ways than one.

An iconic Rockland County location was demolished this week as the large video projectors from Drive-In Theater on Rt 59 came crashing down.

The demolition is the first step towards a major project planned for the lot.

According to the plans filed, Town Square Development LLC plans to build a six floor, 140,000 square foot office building which includes a food area, conference center, gym, shul, outdoor and indoor terraces, and parking.

“This is a good use for the site,” said Ramapo Supervisor Michael Specht. “There is a shortage of office space. This should fill a need. It’s a good location.”

Closed more than 30 years, the drive in theater has sat empty as developers discussed, and even attempted, to make use of the premium land.
