The National Weather Service is advising the Rockland County community of an incoming scattering of storms projected to hit the area Tuesday evening.

“Isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms are expected across western portions of the Tri-State region this afternoon into evening ahead of an approaching cold front,” the National Weather Service said. “The primary hazard with any severe thunderstorm will be damaging wind gusts.”

Damaging wind gusts in excess of 58 mph are projected which could damage trees and power lines, resulting in localized power outages. Large hail is also a possibility and could result in minor damage to motor vehicles.

Heavy rainfall is predicted with as much as 1 inch falling an hour, causing minor flooding of urban and poor drainage areas

The storms are expected to hit between the Lower Hudson Valley between 2:00pm and 6:00pm before moving on to the NYC area between 5:00pm and 9:00pm.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch will be issued by the National Weather Service if the threat for severe
weather increases this afternoon.
