Jewish Monsey Native Graduates NYPD Academy As Valedictorian, Receives Two Awards
As newly graduated Police Officer Samuel Winsbacher took the stage at the NYPD Academy’s most recent graduation, he accepted two awards for excellence and made a massive Kiddush Hashem.
Samuel, a 25-year-old Lubavitcher from Monsey, NY, had worked hard for the coveted valedictorian honor during the grueling training that the Officers of the NYPD work through towards graduation, and through it all, he remained steadfast to his religion.
“I would like to thank my family and close friends — my father Eli, my mother Sharen; my brothers Mendel, Sholom and Levi; my sisters Merele, Chana and Esther — for always putting up with me and supporting me,” Winsbacher said during his valedictorian address. “I would not be standing here today without your continuous support.”
Of the eight awards handed out at each graduation, Samuel was awarded two, the Mayor’s Award and the First Deputy Commissioner Award. These awards come on top of his valedictorian status earned as the highest grade-point average amongst his graduating class.
Now, having completed his training, Winsbacher is heading to the Bronx for his first post.
