Miami Beach Condominium Collapses, Killing At Least 1 With Many Unaccounted For
by Monsey.info
A high rise condominium complex in the Surfside area of Miami came crashing down in the early hours of the morning, killing at least one and trapping many more.
Emergency crews rushed to the twelve story beachside building on Collins Ave to reports of an earthquake like collapse that left half of the large complex pancaked rubble.
Reports from the scene say that at least two people have been pulled from the collapse, with one succumbing to their injuries. Another report indicated that one of those removed looked to be a young boy.
At present, it is unknown exactly who was in the building at the time of the collapse, with many of the apartments having been seasonal, or their occupants not home.
Hatzalah of South Florida is on scene along with other emergency personnel, and a hotline has been set up for family members looking for information. Should you be looking for information on a loved one, please cal 847-322-1422.
The building is close by to the Chabad Shul of Bal Harbor.
Update 11:00am: According to the Mayor of Surfside, 51 people are still unaccounted for. Many might simply have been away from their homes at the time, so the number is likely to shrink in the coming hours.
