Monsey Couple With Infant Rescued From Upstate Blizzard, Stranded in Hotel Without Supplies

by Matis Glenn – Hamodia

A young Monsey couple with a three-month-old child were rescued after their car got stuck in a snowdrift in Western New York, Rockland Chaverim tells Hamodia.

The family had spent Shabbos in a hotel near Niagara Falls, and were on their way home Sunday afternoon, when their car got stuck in a large snowdrift. The family was relying on the Waze service, which had taken them on side-streets, which led them down Scotland Road in Newstead, New York.

Police at the time were responding to numerous calls from people in distress. Thanks to the immediate intervention of Rockland Chaverim, the family’s situation was prioritized and police came to rescue them promptly.

Unfortunately, the family’s ordeal is not yet over.

After police dropped them off at the nearby Hawthorn Suites Wyndham hotel at Buffalo Airport, they still do not have food for their child or basic supplies, such as diapers. They are unable to leave the hotel, and it is very difficult for outsiders to reach them; roads are still closed due to the extreme weather and mounds of snow still covering the region.

Chaverim stepped in once again Monday morning, this time enlisting the help of Rabbi Duddy Farkash, of Chabad of Olympia in Monsey. Together they located a prominent Jewish doctor who lives in the area, who said that he’s able to reach the family and bring them supplies; at this time Chaverim are still waiting to hear a status update from him. Chaverim are ready to travel and pick up the family as soon as the roads reopen.
