Multiple DWI Arrests In Ramapo Since Sunday

MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH/DWI ARREST:

Shortly after 6pm on Sunday evening, RPD responded to the report of a motor vehicle crash in the area of 57 N. Airmont Road. RPD officers conducted an investigation and found that the operator of one of the vehicles involved appeared to be impaired. The operator, a 41 year old male from Ramsey NJ, was placed under arrest and charged with DWI (Misdemeanor) and with refusal to take a breath test. The defendant was arraigned and released on his own recognizance and is due back at the Town of Ramapo Justice court at a later date in August.

Traffic Stop:

Early this morning at approximately 2am, a midnight RPD officer on patrol observed a vehicle traveling on Hempstead Road in the Village of New Hempstead. The officer observed the vehicle drive over the double yellow markings on the roadway in violation of NYS Vehicle and Traffic law. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and found that the driver, a 30 year old male from Stony Point NY, appeared to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. The male was placed under arrest and was charged with DWI. The driver was arraigned and released on his own recognizance and is due back in the Village of New Hempstead court at a later date.

MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH/DWI ARREST:

Shortly after 4pm on Sunday evening, RPD responded to the report of a motor vehicle crash in the parking lot of Guzzels 362 N. Main Street in Hillcrest. RPD officers conducted an investigation and found that the operator of one of the vehicles involved appeared to be impaired. The operator, a 38 year old male from Hillcrest NY, was placed under arrest and charged with Aggravated DWI (.18 B.A.C or higher), Aggravated Unlicensed Operator 1st(Felony), DWI with prior conviction within 10 years (Felony) and Operating out of Ignition Interlock restrictions (Misd). In compliance with NYS Criminal Justice Reform, the male was released without having to post bail and was advised to appear in court at a later date.

It should be noted that a criminal complaint is merely an accusation and that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
