New TOR City Buses To Hit The Road This Weekend
The new buses are part of the Public Transportation Department’s recent order of 20 new 35 & 40 foot Gillig transit buses. Twelve of the vehicles are in the process of entering TOR service & remaining eight expected to enter the fleet by this summer.
𝐍𝐨 𝐑𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐚𝐱 𝐝𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐱𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲 $𝟏𝟏.𝟒 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝟐𝟎 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬, 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬.
Instead, Department exercised an existing contract option with Gillig and used Federal Transit Administration grant funds to purchase the vehicles, with 10-percent New York State Department of Transportation dollars and 10-percent local transportation funds.
The new buses include a low-floor design for easy boarding, front door wheelchair access ramps; bicycle racks, onboard cameras and air purification systems.
