Opiod Deaths Still Prevalent in Rockland County

The death toll from drug overdoses in the United States has decreased significantly over the last few years, with many researchers believing that the dip is tied to the increased use of prevention and life saving Narcan.

Of the 70,237 drug overdose deaths in the United States in 2017, approximately two thirds (47,600) involved an opioid such as heroin. During 2018, a total of 67,367 drug overdose deaths occurred in the United States, a 4.1% decline from 2017; 46,802 (69.5%) involved an opioid.

Sadly, in 2020, Rockland County has not been spared in the deadly chemicals scourge, with a total of 33 deaths reported in to date.

As a public awareness campaign, the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office will be publish the most up to date statistics about this deadly epidemic facing many families in Rockland County every other Friday.
