Pedestrian Safety Enforcement in Ramapo
by Monsey.info
The Ramapo Police Department will be running several Pedestrian Safety details over the next several week, monitoring and stopping both drivers and pedestrians who fail to obey the law.
“In 2019, 6,590 pedestrians were killed in crashes in the United States…the highest total in 30 years,” wrote the Ramapo Police Department.
The “details” will take place at multiple locations, throughout Ramapo.
Most vehicle crashes occur on local roads, at night and away from intersections, making it is crucial that pedestrians use sidewalks and crosswalks whenever available.
Reflective clothing or carrying a flashlight at night can save a life, while not being distracted by a phone or other devices while walking is common sense.
Drivers must be aware of their surroundings and expect that a pedestrian could emerge in the roadway at any second. They must also yield to pedestrians and crosswalks, stay off of devices and drive the speed limit.
