Plan Made To Fight Traffic Due To Bridge Closure
by Monsey.info
Following the closure of the College Road Bridge, traffic has snarled nearby, creating an unsafe and difficult situation for local residents.
To fight the new congestion, a team was sent to investigate the issue and come up with a solution.
“We had a joint meeting this morning with Town of Ramapo, Rockland County Emergency management, Ramapo Police, Ramapo Highway Dept, Sheriff and Thruway Authority,” a person involved in the issue wrote. “We came down to college to see exactly what is going on with the traffic. We saw the problem.”
As a solution, the following changes will be made to the flow of traffic in the area.
- Firstly from now on for Shabbos, Bates and Horton will be closed for traffic except for emergency vehicles.
- The county will put up electric signs all along College and Highview Roads stating that there are road closures, and that there is no threw traffic at College, Bates and Horton.
- Concrete barriers will also be put up at College and Dolson only allowing local traffic to pass.
Construction and closure of the bridge is expected to last at least a year.
The bridge is being replaced with new structures including numerous upgrades to enhance safety for motorists and pedestrians. Safety improvements include increased vertical clearance to meet current standards, wider shoulders and approaches, and new sign structures.
During the construction on the College Road bridge, pedestrian traffic was to be maintained through a temporary pedestrian bridge.
