PSA: Grandparent Scam Making A Comeback
by Monsey.info
The Clarkstown police Department has released a PSA warning of a recent spike in reports of “Grandparent Scams” throughout the area.
An example of this type of scam is where a suspicious person calls an elderly resident on their home phone and tells them that their grandchild was arrested for DWI and needed a large sum of money for bail, this in fact is just an attempt to defraud.
Unfortunately some elderly residents then proceed to the bank, withdraw the money, and provide it to the unknown person(s) when they come and collect it from their house.
We would like all residents to please be aware of these types of scams and call us immediately if someone contacts you or anyone you know with similar intentions. Clarkstown Police Department main phone line (845)639-5800.
