Rockland Legislators Give Statement on Ukraine Invasion

“While innocent Ukrainian men, women and children were asleep in their beds, Vladimir Putin chose to launch a war on a free and independent nation simply because he could.

We stand firmly against this despicable action and join with the voices of millions around the world in demanding Putin’s invasion be halted and all Russian military be immediately withdrawn from the nation of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian people overwhelmingly voted for independence from the Soviet Union 31 years ago, effectively completing the demise of the one-party communist system that nurtured people like Putin. No one has the right to vanquish a country because they have more firepower, want more territory, want another country’s iron and steel, or want to recreate a vanished totalitarian regime.
We stand with the people of Ukraine.

The actions of Vladimir Putin threaten peace and stability like the world hasn’t seen since the days of World War II and the Cold War. The world should join together to stand up against this enemy of freedom and democracy. We condemn Putin’s actions in the strongest way possible and support the efforts of NATO, the European Union and the United States.”
