The horrific tragedy that took place in Buffalo, New York Shabbos afternoon shocked the country.

Ten lives were lost when a openly racist man opened fire in a Buffalo Supermarket with a rifle and wearing tactical gear. The horrific attack was livestreamed through the shooters headcam, and prompted politicians and activists to come out against the attack.

Rockland County Executive Ed Day wrote that “The racist attack in Buffalo, New York, Saturday is horrific. Fueled by hate, 10 innocent people were murdered and 3 others shot in an attack that can only be described as pure evil.”

The sentiment was echoed in The Town of Ramapo which wrote on their social media that “Our thoughts are with Buffalo New York and all those affected by this tragedy. Hate and violence in any form toward anyone is never acceptable. Safety is always a priority, it is important if you see something say something it could save lives.”

The shooter, who was later captured and arrested by local police forces, had left behind a more than 180 page manifesto in which he rails against Chassidic Jews amongst many others.

Rockland County Attorney’s Office noted the racist motive in the attack, and wrote “The Rockland County District Attorney’s offices thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families of the horrific mass shooting that occurred in Buffalo today. Rockland County will NOT tolerate the racism and hatred that appears to have motivated the suspect in this case.”
