Rockland Sherriff Warns Of Phone Scammers Pretending To Be From The Rockland County Sheriff’s Office

The Rockland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating multiple phone call scams where the suspects are contacting potential victims, primarily professionals, and identifying themselves as a Detective from the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office.

Scammers have stated to the victims that they were served a subpoena to appear in Rockland County Court as a witness, and that they failed to appear. They are told that they are in contempt of Court, and a Warrant is being issued. Suspects proceed to tell the victims that in lieu of a criminal proceeding they may choose a civil judgement and pay the “Court” a civil penalty through the finance department, usually to a Lieutenant or Sheriff Falco directly through a Zelle account.

THE ROCKLAND COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE WILL NEVER ASK FOR PAYMENT OVER THE PHONE THROUGH ZELLE, PAY PAL OR VENMO MOBILE PAYMENT.

Do not fall prey to these scammers. Hang Up!
