Rockland Yeshivas Among Schools Slated To Receive Money From Stimulus Package

With $624 million in federal education aid earmarked for the Hudson Valley, Yeshivos and private schools in Rockland County will soon see a large payout.

In Rockland County, Clarkstown Central School District is scheduled to receive $5,433,000, East Ramapo Central School District $162,004,000, Haverstraw-Stony Point Central School District $13,071,000, Nanuet Union Free School District $1,635,000, Nyack Union Free School District $3,219,000, Pearl River Union Free School District $2,285,000, Ramapo Central School District $5,108,000, and South Orangetown Central School District $1,146,000.

The heavily Jewish areas of East Ramapo Central School District got a lions share of the money, largely due to the concentration of Jewish schools in the area.

The East Ramapo Central School District has 9,000 children that go to the public schools within the district, along with 28,000 who attend local yeshivos.

According to the Stimulus plan, the money will be used to fill budget gaps, address learning loss, meet the needs of students with disabilities, assist students experiencing homelessness, and provide summer enrichment and afterschool programs.
