Sad News As The Vibes Center Announces Plans To Close Its Doors

In January of 2022, The Vibes Recreation Center opened its doors at the former LifePlex Health Club location at 18 College Road. The center BH became a popular space for people of all ages in the heimishe community. With a state of the art gym, an Olympic sized pool, group fitness classes, a spa and Shvitz, Vibes became the place to exercise, swim, relax, socialize, and rejuvenate…. a community within the community.

From the start, however, the location had many serious deficiencies and challenges. This included aging building equipment such as the central AC, the building’s pipes, and many more problems that the owner failed to repair despite repeated promises to do so.

Understandably, having to deal with the many issues related to the building’s inadequacies led to a direct loss of revenue for Vibes which added tremendous costs on our end. After paying $60,000 a month in rent for ten months, the lack of action from the landlord led to a dispute on the price and payment of rent.

In the state of New York, tenants can sue owners for repairs and breach of contract. We chose to pursue negotiations directly with the landlord instead of going to court, with the hope of coming to a mutual agreement. The landlord, however, chose to go to court.

Shockingly and sadly, he won a judgement to initiate eviction proceedings against The Vibes Recreation Center.

As a result of these developments, the Vibes Center will close its doors Sunday April 21, 2024, at midnight.

Due to the steep monetary damages from the last two years, we do not have any immediate plans to restart operations elsewhere.
