SCAM ALERT: Apple Care Scam Hits Ramapo Resident

An elderly Town of Ramapo resident fell victim to a phone scam in which a man claiming to be from Appla Care called the victim and convinced them to pay for security.

The victim was told that the scammer could upgrade their security software to hinder people from hacking into their accounts, and demanded payment through gift cards.

The caller kept the victim on the phone as the victim went to multiple stores and purchased gift cards totaling approximately $9,500.
