Solar Power Growing In Rockland County
Approximately 29 megawatts of customer solar power were added to O&R’s electric system in 2021 – the second largest annual increase of customer solar to O&R’s electric system in the past 10 years. O&R customers have now completed more than 10,650 projects with the capacity to produce over 180 megawatts of electricity since 2001.
Those projects avoid the production of 108,271 tons of carbon emissions and the amount of greenhouse gas emissions produced by more than 23,000 cars.
Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc. (O&R) is made up of Orange & Rockland that provides electric and gas service in New York to Rockland, Orange and Sullivan counties, and Rockland Electric Company that provides electric service to Bergen, Passaic and Sussex counties in New Jersey. Both companies are owned by Consolidated Edison, Inc.
O&R Vice President- Operations Orville Cocking said, “Our customers are the keys to our clean energy future. Their continued strong support for solar energy contributes to meeting vital environmental and sustainability goals that are essential to creating a viable future for ourselves, our children, and for generations to come.”
Orange & Rockland and Rockland Electric Company encourage customers to go to consider solar energy to learn more.
Adding more solar to the region’s energy mix is part of Con Edison’s Clean Energy Commitment.
