Three US Service Members Killed, At Least 25 Injured In Drone Attack in Jordan
Three US service members were killed and 25 others wounded in a drone attack Saturday night in northeast Jordan near the Syrian border — a major escalation in already dangerously rising Mideast tensions.
The air assault was carried out against a small American outpost in Jordan and marked the first time US troops have been killed by enemy fire in the Middle East since conflict erupted in the region after Hamas’ Oct. 7 terrorist attack on Israel.
“While we are still gathering the facts of this attack, we know it was carried out by radical Iran-backed militant groups operating in Syria and Iran,” President Biden said in a statement — adding that the troops were killed by a “despicable and wholly unjust attack.
