Don’t try to outrun the police, it won’t work.

Two people who attempted to do that exact thing found out they couldn’t after attempting to run away from a crime scene.

On Sunday, a Ramapo Police officer on patrol in the area of S. Airmont Rd and Church Rd, in the Village of Airmont, observed a traffic infraction committed by an older model red Acura. The officer made a U-Turn to pull behind the vehicle and the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed, passing multiple vehicles in what was described by the police as a reckless manner.

The operator of the vehicle lost control and crashed onto the front lawn of a home on S. Airmont Rd. The operator and passenger bailed from the stuck vehicle, attempting to flee on foot through the backyards of the nearby homes. The officers gave chase, detaining both people soon after.

While the passenger, who complained of medical issues from the crash, was transported to the hospital, the police arrested the driver, a 20-year-old male from Airmont.

The driver was charged with Reckless Driving, Leaving the Scene of an Automobile Accident involving Injury, Reckless Endangerment 2nd, Assault 3rd, Sale/Purchase of a Stolen Certificate of Registration or Number Plate, Obstructing Governmental Administration and issued a number of traffic tickets.

The defendant was processed at RPD and released with no bail. He was issued an appearance ticket and advised to appear in court on a future date.
