Two Men Arrested For Kidnapping After Luring Victim To Hotel

Two men have been arrested after they lured a man into a Hotel room under the guise of a construction project before forcing him to transfer them money VIA a cell phone app.

On Wednesday, August 17, 2022, the Town of Haverstraw Police Department received a report from an individual that he had been a victim of a robbery.

according o the police, the victim had met the two suspects at a Garnerville Motel under the assumption of giving an estimate to renovate the motel rooms. Once inside one of the rooms, the victim was held at gunpoint and forced to transfer money to the suspect through a mobile app.

An investigation by the Town of Haverstraw Police Department Detective Bureau led to the arrest of Jonathan Abikzer (who was known to the victim) age 30 of Monsey, New York who was located and apprehended in the confines of the 33rd precinct in New York City and Michael Galkovich age 46 of New City, NY who was located and apprehended at his residence.

Both Suspects charged with Kidnapping in the Second Degree, Robbery in the First Degree, and Robbery in the Second Degree. They were arraigned in the Town of Haverstraw Justice Court and held on bail. Abikzer was held on 100,000 dollars cash bail and Galkovich was held on 50,000 dollars cash bail pending a future court date.

The Town of Haverstraw Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Town of Clarkstown Police Department, Rockland County District Attorney’s Office, the Rockland County Sheriff’s Department, the Ramapo Police Department, the Rockland County Intel Unit, and the New York City Police Department.
