Two RPD Officers Injured During Arrests In the Last Few Days
Over the past few days two Ramapo Police Officers sustained injuries while attempting to make arrests in two separate incidents:
Incident #1:
A Ramapo Police Officer was placing a 34-year-old Chestnut Ridge man under arrest for Disorderly Conduct this week after the male had approached a vehicle parked on the shoulder of the road and screamed obscenities at the occupant. The male being arrested was acting irrationally and was placing the occupant in fear.
The responding officers tried to assist the male, who wasn’t driving a vehicle, with getting home safely when he began to swear at the officers and swung his arms aggressively. When officers attempted to place the man under arrest for Disorderly Conduct, he violently resisted. One of the officers suffered a substantial injury as a result.
The male was charged with Assault on a Police Officer (Felony), Obstruction of Governmental Administration 2nd (Misdemeanor), Resisting Arrest (Misdemeanor) and Disorderly Conduct (Violation). Bail was set at $30,000.00.
Incident #2:
Ramapo Police officers responded to a domestic incident in which a female was picked up and thrown into the wall by a male. The female victim had sustained a laceration as an injury, and the incident had caused damage to the home.
The suspect, a 23-year-old male from Hillcrest, was approached by officers and was uncooperative and confrontational. When officers attempted to handcuff him, he actively resisted, using his feet to push off of the stairs and shove officers backwards into the wall.
Once handcuffed, the male then refused to walk to the patrol car. The officers had to carry him to the police car. The male refused to exit the vehicle at Ramapo PD Headquarters and officers had to carry him out of the vehicle to the holding cell.
The male was charged with Assault 3rd (Misdemeanor), Criminal Mischief 4th (Misdemeanor), Harassment 2nd (Violation) Resisting Arrest (Misdemeanor) and Assault on a Police Officer (Felony). Bail was set at $20,000.00.
