With Thunderstorms Tonight, O&R Preps to Repair Possible Damage

Due to the high wind threat, O&R plans to remain at an elevated storm alert emergency response level until the high-wind threat dissipates Wednesday afternoon.

From 7 p.m. last night through today, O&R crews restored electric service to approximately 5,200 customers who temporarily lost power. Approximately 90 customers who are currently without power are due back in service by 2 a.m.

Light to moderate snow is now expected to continue until about 8 p.m. today across O&R’s service area. After 8 p.m. tonight, winds are expected to become gusty. Prevailing winds will range from 15 to 30 mph with gusts from 40 to 50 mph. Winds will remain gusty, peaking between 10 p.m. Tuesday and 3 a.m. Wednesday and again Wednesday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Winds slowly diminish later in the day Wednesday as this storm system exits off the coast.

Orange & Rockland is preparing to mobilize its emergency response workforce to repair potential damage and restore possible power outages that could result from thunderstorms and strong wind gusts that are predicted for this evening.

O&R company and contractor overhead line crews and tree removal experts, customer service operators and the other O&R emergency response personnel were activated and deployed last night, as were O&R overhead line mutual aid workers to support the repair effort.
