Fatal Fire Burn Through Rockland County Home Over Shabbos

Five people have died over Shabbos after a house caught fire in Spring Valley.
Rockland County Executive Ed Day and other local officials provided an update Saturday on the fire, confirming that the deceased included two minors, and five rushed to the hospital.
Fire and Emergency Services Coordinator Chris Kear, Office of Buildings & Codes (OBC) Director Ed Markunas, Spring Valley Police Chief Rich Oleszczuk and Spring Valley Police Lieutenant Jack Bosworth were alongside the County Executive for the briefing on the work and challenges of the scene.
βOn behalf of the people of Rockland County we offer our sincerest prayers and thoughts to the families who were involved and those who have been displaced,β said County Executive Ed Day. βWe will do whatever we can do to get them through this tragedy moving forward.β
The flames broke out Saturday morning on 118th Lake Street around 4:03am, according to Mayor Alan Simon. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
