Haverstraw Man Convicted For Unprovoked Slashing in The Village

Rockland County District Attorney Tom Walsh announced today that Darius Williams, 34 of Spring Valley, New York, was convicted after a four-day jury trial before the Honorable Kevin Russo of Assault in the 2nd Degree (D Felony) and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree (D Felony) for an incident that occurred in the Village of Haverstraw.

On July 12, 2022 at approximately 6:08pm, the defendant slashed a Haverstraw resident in the face with what appeared to be a box cutter. The victim was walking with his wife on the sidewalk on Broadway in the Village of Haverstraw. The defendant approached the couple and without provocation swung at the victim in a downward motion with a box cutter and sliced the left side of the victim’s face near his temple and proceeded to walk away. The victim and the defendant were not previously known to each other and there was no apparent motive for the attack.

The Haverstraw Police Department investigated the case with the assistance of the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Nicole Garcia. The defendant is scheduled for sentencing on September 6, 2023 and faces up to 7 years in state prison on each count.
