An early Shabbos morning fire severely damages a strip mall on Route 45, sending flames billowing into the air and scrambling multiple fire departments.

The Hillcrest Fire Company No. 1 reported that they responded on 7/8/23 at 3:4am to 312 State Route 45, Hillcrest Plaza, to a fully involved fire in three stores. “Firefighters were met with heavy fire coming through the roof upon arrival,” the fire Department wrote. “Firefighters were able to keep the fire from damaging additional stores on both sides even with the nearby fire hydrant being inoperable.”

The Hillcrest Fire Company was assisted on the scene by the Monsey Fire Department, the Spring Valley Fire Department, Tallman Fire Department, New City Fire Department, Thiells Fire Department, as well as others. Spring Hill EMS and Ramapo Police Department were also on scene.

“Thank you to the Stony Point and West Haverstraw Fire Departments that covered our district in case of any additional calls,” The Hillcrest Fire Department wrote.

Two patients were assessed by Spring Hill EMS and released from medical care and two firefighters were treated for minor injuries. One firefighter was treated on scene and the other was transported to Nyack Hospital.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Rockland County Sheriff’s Department BCI Unit and Ramapo Police Detectives Bureau.
