Orange And Rockland Utilities Crews Continue Working To Restore Storm Damage, About 1200 Customers Still Without Power

Orange and Rockland Utilities (O&R) emergency response crews worked through the night to repair damage and restore power outages that resulted from the strong winds that knocked out power to approximately 19, 000 O&R customers yesterday.

So far, power has been restored to over 18,000 customers. About 1,200 customers remain without power. The remaining outages represent significant damage and will take substantial construction work to restore. For example, more than 13 outage locations have broken poles and crossarms.

O&R today obtained 50 more mutual aid overhead line contractors to join the 200 O&R has already acquired to support its internal field workforce.

O&R expects to restore power to nearly all customers affected by the storm by 11 p.m. today. There may be some customers who are not restored today because of structural damage to their buildings or to their buildings’ internal electric equipment.

For safety’s sake, O&R warns the public not to touch or approach any downed wire. Assume it is energized and dangerous. Call O&R immediately toll-free 1-877-434-4100. Depending on the situation, you may also consider calling your local police to divert traffic from the downed wire’s location until an O&R crew arrives.

At 6 a.m. today, approximately, 1,200 customers remain out of service as a result of storm damage.
