The DeWint House in Tappan, built in 1700 and the oldest standing building in Rockland County. The DeWint House served as George Washington’s headquarters on four separate occasions during the American Revolutionary War.
President Washington inspected nearby forts along the Hudson River, attended the trial of Major John André, negotiated the withdrawal of British Soldiers from New York City, and stayed to shelter during a snowstorm while going to and from West Point.
