Road Closure This Weekend As Critical Repairs Being Done On Northbound Thruway
An important message was published from the Office of Supervisor Michael Specht on road closures this weekend stemming from critical bridge repairs that will take place on the northbound Thruway.
I’m writing to let you know about critical bridge repairs that will take place on the northbound Thruway (I-87) above Saddle River Road in Monsey – between exits 14A (Garden State Parkway Connector) and exit 14B (Airmont Road) – starting this Friday night and lasting potentially to Monday night. The work, occurring only in the northbound direction, will require extended lane closures. The Thruway Authority is working with its regional transportation partners to encourage motorists to avoid the area and seek alternate routes starting Friday night as delays are expected.
- Beginning at approximately 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, only one of three northbound travel lanes will be open to traffic.
- A second travel lane is anticipated to reopen sometime after 7 a.m. Saturday.
- This temporary traffic pattern is needed to facilitate repairs to a deteriorated portion of the concrete deck on the bridge over Saddle River Road in Monsey.
- Flaggers will direct motorists and pedestrians on Saddle River Road during the work.
- Crews will make every effort to have all three northbound lanes open by Monday morning, but one travel lane may remain closed, potentially impacting both the morning and evening commutes.
- In this scenario, we expect that all travel lanes will be available for use early on Tuesday morning.
- Additional repairs on the bridge are expected to occur next weekend (Nov. 18-19) in the southbound direction. I’ll follow up with an email next week with those details.
