Weather Alert: Baking Heatwave to Slam Rockland County This Week

A heat advisory is in effect for our entire Rockland County area Wednesday and Thursday of this week, with maximum heat index values ranging from the mid 90s to around 100 both days.
According to the US National Weather Service New York NY, max heat index values will occur between noon and 8:00pm each afternoon, with Low temperatures ranging mostly between 75 and 80 degrees, which will not allow for much cooling off at night.
With this heat wave, there is an increased risk of heat-related illness for vulnerable populations according to the National weather service, and residents are encouraged to be prepared.
Leading up to this week’s sizzling weather forecast, O&R offered some cool tips to help its neighbors try to stay comfortable and save money on energy.
-Turn down or turn off air conditioning in your home while you are away or at work to help lower your energy bill.
-Set your air conditioner to the highest temperature your comfort and health will allow to help you save cooling money.
-Close all doors and windows in your home while the air conditioning is running to make things cooler at a lower price.
-Cook, bake, or perform other household activities that produce heat and humidity during the cooler times of the day and night.
-Pull your curtains and shades closed to help block out the sun and the heat of the day.
